Optalysys welcomes bioinformatician Dr William Rowe to the team. William will focus on the applications for Optalysys’s first commercial product which uses optical processing technology to perform genetic sequence alignment (see Project GENESYS for more information).
William holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering from UMIST; examining the potential of surfactants and other multiphase materials in the phase separation and crystallisation of membrane proteins.
Following two years at Unilever Research and Development, he returned to academia, applying Machine Learning and optimisation techniques in the design and analysis of a variety of OMICS experiments.
After ten years at the University of Manchester, he went on to work at Loughborough University, before joining the Optalysys team.
His primary research interest is in bioinformatics and is the author of numerous publications in the field.
Optalysys was founded in 2013. CEO Dr Nick New, a renowned world expert in optical pattern recognition, developed the forerunner to the Optalysys technology whilst carrying out his PhD on optical pattern recognition at Cambridge University. Dr New went on to forge relationships with international academic and commercial institutions before securing funding to take Optalysys forward.
The Optalysys team includes specialists in software development, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), free-space optics, optical engineering and production engineering.
The company has several patents covering its groundbreaking technology.
